Screening (Complimentary): We provide a screening at no charge for anyone interested.  The screening test will test educational strengths and weaknesses to help parents and educators meaningfully collaborate to devise strategies and approaches to address a student's learning challenges.

Testing:  The Encinitas Learning Center provides extensive academic testing and now offers the state-of-the art Scantron Assessment Solutions computer-adaptive diagnostic test for students.  While some schools are starting to use it, most do not currently have the funding available to perform this level of testing on-site.  This form of testing is a helpful tool for parents and educators who wish to examine the student's functional and academic skill levels in more detail to determine with more accuracy areas of strength and areas in need of additional support.  For more information see: http://www.scantron.com/performanceseries/

Fast ForWord®

Founded in 1996, Scientific Learning combines the lastest advances in brain research and propriety
technology to create products and services that developing learning and communication skills.

Based upon more than 30 years of neuroscience research, Scientific Learning's Fast ForWord family of
products use patented technology to target the language and reading skills widely recognized as the
    fundamental keys to all learning.

Interactive Metronome®

Interactive Metronome (IM) was developed in the early 1990s and is used to help children with learning  and
developmental disorders as well as adult neuro rehabilitation patients. IM is a neuro-motor assessment &
treatment tool used in therapy to improve the neurological processes of motor planning and
    sequencing.

The IM program provides a structured, goal-oriented process that challenges the patient to synchronize a
range of hand and foot exercises to a precise computer-generated reference tone heard through
headphones. The patient attempts to match the rhythmic beat with repetitive motor actions. A patented
auditory-visual guidance system provides immediate feedback measured in milliseconds, and a score is
provided to help parents, students and instructors gage progress.

P.A.C.E®  (by LearningRx)

After 30 years of testing and clinical research, PACE for Processing and Cognitive
Enhancement  was launched. It is rapidly become the leading cognitive training program in the USA.  Over
700 professionals in more than 350 schools, clinics, hospitals, and training locations have participated in
the development, testing, and clinical use of the PACE program to date. PACE continues to collect data from
offices across the country and critically reviews the results to maintain quality control.

The purpose of the intense PACE program is to produce significant changes quickly so that the student
sees the changes and stays motivated to learn.  These programs are customizable to each individual
student's needs, and attack the cause of learning problems rather than symptoms. Per LearningRx,
average gains exceed 3.6 years in learning skills in 12 weeks and 5.2 years in reading in 18 weeks.

The Listening Program®

The Listening Program’s psychoacoustically modified music and patent-pending production techniques are
designed to stimulate, or “exercise” the different functions of the auditory processing system. This enables
the brain to better receive, process, store and utilize the valuable information provided through the varied
soundscapes in our lives such as music, language and the environment in which we live.

Deficits and Supportive Programs:

ADD/ADHD:  Deficits in the area of concentration, impulsivity, energy management, completion of tasks and retention of information are often exhibited by students with ADD/ADHD.  With appropriate interventions, improvement can often can be seen and measured quickly.  Programs such as FastForword® and Samonas®, Interactive Metronome® or the Learning Ears® program can help to calm implulses and essentially retrain a person who has such deficits.

ADD/ADHD can also result from an undiagnosed auditory processing issue (see below).  A screening for auditory processing problems can help professionals to better understand a student's struggles and devise an individualized plan to get the best results.

Auditory Processing:
Auditory processing is the ability to hear individual sounds within words (c-a-t), hold the sound of a word in order to compare it to another word ("cat"   versus "cad"), and discern whether the two words are the same or different.   Traditional hearing tests may indicate that a student's hearing is "within normal limits" but hearing and being able to discern what is heard can be two different things for someone with an auditory processing deficit.  For example, if your child has troubles following verbal instructions at home or school, or sometimes mixes up words that he or she has heard, testing for the deficit may be warranted.

Dyslexia:  Dyslexia is a term widely used to describe learning disabilities of all kinds. Commonly, dyslexia is used to describe visual processing disorders and reading difficulties. Programs such as Fast Forword® and PACE®, when coupled with phonemic awareness intervention and California Project Read and Guided Writing Programs, can make a huge improvement in classroom or workplace performance. A screening for auditory processing problems can also help to rule out any auditory problems that may need to be addressed. In any case, an individualized program applied in a professional setting is extremely effective whether applying one technology or a combination of technologies.
