Social Skills Rating Scale for Parents
This simple, developmentally aware rating scale is designed for parents of children ages 10–18 to reflect on their child's social-emotional growth. It is divided into general and age-specific sections to capture a well-rounded view. Please rate each item from 1 to 5 (1 = Rarely, 5 = Almost Always).
Section 1: General Social Skills (Ages 10–18)
1. My child is able to take turns in conversations.
2. My child is aware of personal space and body language.
3. My child listens without interrupting.
4. My child can ask for help when needed.
5. My child expresses emotions in a way others can understand.
6. My child can manage disappointment or frustration without lashing out.
7. My child responds appropriately to teasing or criticism.
8. My child shows empathy toward others.
9. My child understands social rules or unspoken expectations.
10. My child uses appropriate greetings and goodbyes.
Section 2: Pre-Teens (Ages 10–13)
11. My child enjoys group activities or clubs with peers.
12. My child can handle winning and losing games appropriately.
13. My child attempts to resolve peer conflicts with words.
14. My child can recognize when a peer is being left out or upset.
15. My child understands how to join ongoing conversations or games.
Section 3: Teens (Ages 14–18)
16. My teen is aware of how their actions affect others emotionally.
17. My teen can engage in reciprocal conversations.
18. My teen seeks out or maintains friendships.
19. My teen navigates online/social media interactions responsibly.
20. My teen can self-advocate in social or academic situations.
21. My teen recognizes social pressure and thinks critically about it.
